Doja Cat – Attention

Doja Cat’s new song, “Attention,” is appropriately titled because she stated to everyone that she was here to rap.

She does a great job of subversion in this song, lulling listeners in with her airy singing vocals on the hook and pre-chorus before she gets to the bars. She has demonstrated her ability to spit throughout her career, which is interesting, but this was her sharpest performance to date, especially given the vintage production.

The GRAMMY winner addresses the hatred for going bald, losing weight, and requiring therapy in response to all of the criticism she receives online.

She raps, “You’re lucky ‘cause I just paid your bill with a reply/ I just made your money pile knee-high,”

“I just made your stats peak, now you got a blue check/ Now you can afford to go and reinstall a new wig.”

Doja is having a good time while everyone keeps talking about her with this song; a modern illustration of implicitly promoting something you appear to dislike. In essence, she will always say “Attention” no matter what.
