Video: Benny the Butcher - Times is Rough

Benny the Butcher and the Black Soprano Family have released new music video for their song “Times is Rough,” which was created by DJ Premier.

The music video for the tune was directed by Street Heat and shot in Harlem, with the complete B$F standing in the background. The legendary DJ Premier makes a cameo appearance in the song video, doing some of his trademark scratches and motions while imitating his work on the 1s and 2s.

Over the course of the three-minute boom-bap instrumental, Benny the Butcher, Heem, and Rick Hyde trade bars, spitting verses in front of residential structures, graffiti-covered mirrors, and rooms full of champagne.

Benny the Butcher spits with self-assurance throughout the opening verse of the single, saying, “Plug told me, when my records stop selllin’, they still got me.” “Ni**as just catching on to the numbers I’m checkin’ on/ Got lucky last summer/ Bookies wanna know what I’m betting on/ Set the bar, gifted tar, came through like a wreckin’ ball/ Ni**as can’t touch a brick without puttin’ my record on,” the lyrics of the song read.
