Video: H.E.R. – Hard Place

There are a number of hit songs contained on H.E.R.’s extended play (EP) titled I Used to Know Her: Part 2, one of which is the singer’s most recent single titled “Hard Place.” The music video for the tune, which was produced by Rodney Jerkins, was released by the 21-year-old artist as a follow-up to the popularity of the song. The video gives the lyrics of the song a more tangible form, telling the story of the highs and lows of a relationship.

The video clip that lasts for four and a half minutes follows a singer-songwriter and a love interest named Leo as they go through the challenges of popularity, romance, and how she ends up overshadowing his own music career due to her growing success in the music industry. In order to protect her privacy as much as possible, H.E.R. can only be seen in the film in fleeting moments due to the fact that she hides her face behind large, dark sunglasses and always sports her distinctive, voluminous, curly haircut.

As the music video progresses, H.E.R. can be seen having a good time in a variety of settings, including relaxing with her partner in an apartment and playing in front of a huge crowd on a prominent stage. Following the debut of the short clip, followers of the California native’s work have immediately flocked to Twitter to express their admiration for his most recent work.
