Naima Cochrane, a contributor to VIBE, once stated that any song that mentions food is definitely talking about drugs or sex. When John Legend sings “A million of kingdoms will fall/ So many crowns will be lost/ All for a taste, I will pay any cost,” it is reasonable to believe that he is referring to the latter in his seductive collaboration with Muni Long.

In the music video for “Long Live,” which was directed by Christian Breslauer and picks up where the video for “Dope” left off, John Legend appears to wake up in a daze trying to make sense of what happened the night before. At the same time, he notices that there are bees swarming and honey dripping from a portrait of Long that is hanging on the wall, as though someone has called upon the Candyman. He breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the woman of the hour behind the honeycomb wall, where she was relaxing in a tub filled with the natural remedy. As he observes her, she pokes fun of him by asking, “Don’t you love that golden glisten/ When you put your fingers in this?”

The tune, in contrast to what some may anticipate, is more of an uptempo number than a ballad, and it acts as a lively backdrop to the building of foreplay. The song “Honey” will be included on the upcoming eighth studio album from John Legend, which will also have guest appearances by Jazmine Sullivan, Jhené Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, Rapsody, and Rick Ross.

In the meantime, Long has recently published her follow-up extended play (EP), titled Public Displays of Affection Too. The EP includes the catchy tune “Baby Boo,” which features Saweetie, as well as the urban radio hit “Another.”
