Video: Kendrick Lamar - N95

Kendrick Lamar has formally made a comeback. The first song video from the critically renowned rapper’s most recent album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, was immediately released. The rapper debuted the inventive video for “N95” on Saturday (May 14), which includes skating tricks, a cameo from Baby Keem, and the Compton native floating above flowing water.

The “N95” video, which was directed by Lamar and Dave Free of pgLang, is primarily shot in black and white with a few moments featuring brilliant color, such as one where the line “this sh*t hard” (which he repeats on the song) is displayed in red print.

The actual record, which was released on Friday the 13th, covers a wide range of topics drawn from the artist’s own experiences. Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers’ single “N95” is the first from the group to feature a music video.

Before the album’s release, the Compton-born performer released “The Heart Part 5,” a deepfake-powered creative visual in which he transforms into several athletes while rapping from their perspectives, including Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle. Following the release of the album, K. Dot maintained the pace and unveiled the international dates for his The Big Steppers Tour, which is scheduled to launch this summer with Baby Keem and Tanna Leone. The album has performances by both pgLang musicians.

Given that Kendrick Lamar has a history of releasing music videos that are frequently as innovative and divisive as his music, it is only reasonable to expect more in the wake of the release of this initial visual.
