Video: Rihanna – American Oxygen

Rihanna is a strong advocate for national pride in the United States.

Following the release of her most recent single, “Bitch Better Have My Money,” the stunningly beautiful Bajan artist demonstrates her range with the song “American Oxygen.” TIDAL was the platform on which she debuted both the single and the gleaming new video.

The recently released socially conscious music video by Rihanna provided us something to which we can feel connected. It featured footage from the recent protests over the shooting of Mike Brown, as well as footage from 9/11, the work of civil rights leaders, and even children who will be our future. Rihanna portrays the effort and hardship we endure to reach the American ideal, but at the same time generating optimism for the future, while singing against the American flag at various points throughout her performance. “This is the new America,” she sings at one point in the song. “We are the new America.” / “We are the new America.”
