Video: DAWN - jealousy

We have been given a gift by Dawn in the form of a new song and music video for her hit “Jealousy.”

The film is a production made by Monty Mash and features Chief Montana of the Washitaw Nation. The Washitaw Nation is a group of Black Indians who claim to be a sovereign Native American nation in the United States. Monty Mash directed the video. Dawn was the first woman to ever receive authorization from a chief to wear a headdress; this accomplishment occurred simultaneously with her comeback to the music industry after an absence of two years.

In this earthy music video, DAWN provides a performance that shines a light on the beauty that can be found in her hometown of New Orleans, while also delivering a performance that is illuminating.

“The visual explains my roots in the Washitaw Nation Tribe,” DAWN said. “I wanted to show New Orleans in a light that the majority of people have never seen or are aware of,” said the author. The picture depicts the Black Indian and the power of our traditional attire in its various forms. My hand-sewn headgear was crafted by Chief Montana, and it symbolises the authority that comes with holding the titles of King and Queen. The members of our tribes spend the entire year hand-beading these costumes, and then they perform dances to showcase their handiwork to members of other tribes.
