Video: Jessie Reyez – Apple Juice

Jessie Reyez brings the vacation feelings to this particularly warm Friday (July 27) with the sepia-toned graphics for her current single “Apple Juice.” “Apple Juice” was released earlier this week.

The Canadian songstress and songwriter is shown in the video directed by Phillip Harris while on vacation in the city of Nice in France. Phillip Harris directed the video. She doesn’t just lie about and bask in the sun, but she also relaxes quite a bit and thinks about an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend.

She croons on the heartbreaking yet soulful melody that “Don’t let goodbye come too easy, love me,” which was produced by Fred Ball. The song “Apple Juice” is a follow up to her recent song and video, “Body Count,” which shows Reyez amid what appears to be the Salem Witch Trials. “Body Count” was released earlier this year.

Reyez, who was nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards in 2018, explained that the unusual title of the song arose from an interaction she had with the audience while performing in Montreal.

“I’m walking across the stage with a cup full of whisky, then I look out, and I’m like, ‘Uhh, it’s apple juice in my cup!'” she recalled doing at one point in her performance. “And then I stopped singing and put the cup down,” she said. The following day, I came across an item that stated, “She performed this really cool new song that’s called Apple Juice.”
