Video: Pharrell Williams – Cash In Cash Out ft. 21 Savage, Tyler, The Creator

With “Cash In Cash Out,” Pharrell returns with his debut song as a producer and features 21 Savage and Tyler, the Creator. The powerful and original song is matched by an equally original video. The Francois Rousselet-directed video features a claymation look, and it depicts a roulette-like environment in which the trio is shown driving automobiles, riding bikes, and burning money while being surrounded by extraordinarily tall women and their hula hoops.

As was hinted at last month, the new song would focus on 21 and Tyler’s lyrical abilities rather than Pharrell’s vocals. P recently discussed why he chose these two young musicians for the single in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.

I was warned that this tune was intense, and my fears were confirmed. “It seems like those two,” he concluded. To set loose two pit bulls, as it were. Ravenous. A pair of savage canines….Tyler lost his mind. That verse was recorded before his most recent album was released.

The resident of Virginia Beach said this about the music video for his single: “We knew that we wanted something that was different and something that was gripping, something that I had never really done before.” Well, that settles it. Always aim for that. I just don’t have time to play right now with everything else on my plate. I might as well not be talking to you if I can’t hold a blow torch to your face. Scorsese, I mean, is not a player. You could ask, “Why should I?”

Division’s Jules De Chateleux served as the video’s executive producer, while Nicolas Larroquere handled editing and Morgan Seite oversaw the project’s art direction. The music video’s visual effects were produced by Electric Theatre Collective under the watchful eye of Phi Hollinger and Todd Tourso.
